Help I'm thinking about Doom 2016 again and how extremely let down I felt from the hype vs actually playing the game.

Doom2016 posting.

I played on Ultra-Violence I think? Its been a while.

Gonna be honest, I kept forgetting the chainsaw existed, and hand grenades. Both seemed so pointless to use. I only ever found the chainsaw coming out when I saw fuel for it and went "oh right, I have that delete button."

I'm not really sure why the Plasma rifle exists other than to waste gauss cannon ammo. I'm not sure why the chaingun exists other than "you forgot you had a chainsaw and need to kill a big boy"

The combat shotgun can charge a 3 shot mode. Why is there a supershotgun? Alternatively, why can I hold both?

It really feels like the game wanted to be a new generation but was so stuck on its classics that it just flopped in the execution.

Seriously, I only remembered there were hand grenades because I had to check the wiki to confirm the game had the plasma rifle and it wasn't my brain making up a bad joke gun

@Draekos Oh...yeah, Doom 2016's biggest criticism was that it was so easy that a lot of the mechanics on offer mattered little. I literally killed 90% of hell with just the Super Shotgun.

The weapon animations looked cool tho.

@FreyaManibrandr I only ever found myself shooting the super shotgun when I forced myself to scroll wheel on each kill, so I HAD TO use anything but the assault rifle and Gauss cannon.
