why are we so invested in backing pointless, obtrusive features with bad AI

we have somehow constructed a future where everyone is starved for labor and yet the robots are coming to unemploy us all. so many folks close to me have been looking for work for **years** with no luck, people who i'd love to put to work full-time on any of a million critical efforts, but none of us controls the capital to purchase labor, and owning someone else's labor sketches us all the hell out because we only sell our labor because the alternative is death.

late capitalism is so bizarre

tech, late capitalism

if the robots are coming to unemploy us all, doesn't that mean all our jobs will get done without us? shouldn't that result in leisure time? freedom from the coercive sale of labor? why the fuck does it instead result in **actual starvation**?

tech, late capitalism

there are dead in our streets because the rich cannot imagine the end of their privilege, and they are willing to kill for it over and over again. preserving our future is self defense.

hands up, who has burned out at least once? who knows they are on track for burnout? meanwhile we lose jobs and never get another shot because the call center went full auto, the receptionist role requires a masters, the server gig takes five years busboy experience, while the minimum wage gig you've managed to hold onto for years has been promising a raise just as long. the week you get the raise, it's for a dime.

the rich want you to believe automation displaces us, but no. it's just them.
