My house almost burned down yesterday!

This house has an extension off the south side that was done in the 70s and absolutely nothing about it is up to code. The wiring especially is so bad it's melted the plugs of space heaters before.

This outlet was the 1st drop in the kitchen. All the other outlets on that wall were daisy-chained off this outlet; that's why it almost caught fire. That backing plate must have been glowing bright red!!

Guess I'll be rewiring the kitchen sooner than planned...

@mawr Yikes!

Also... same. We fried ground neutral here back in December, after someone visiting put a space heater on one of the only ungrounded lines in our house. Thankfully, it shorted gracefully.

Ours is a ‘68 construction, so similar wiring plan. We upgraded the lines, panel box, and added a surge protector to the house line.

Good news is I can recommend a company to do this work for you?

@mawr Recommendations sent! (For those reading, we used ECO Electric out here.)

Also, neutral*, not ground neutral (which is not a real thing). Silly editing.
