one of the things I really love about the Splatoon series is how hard it commits to its incredibly dark premise: a training program for child soldiers conditioning them to fight to the death, using their own bodily fluids, in an environment where they are technologically immortal, to prepare them for an endless war where "respawners" are not necessarily available

to be clear, this is _explicit_ in the lore of the series

@Soreth @kistaro This also ignores that at least two organizations benefiting from keeping that endless war at bay were secretly building super weapons to astroturf the planet, and that one of them, quite explicitly, is a military contractor.

It's a thing.

@Goldkin @Soreth now thinking about why the many industrial zones used as Splatoon multiplayer maps have so many unguarded places to fall into open water and die, among other unguarded hazards: because who needs OSHA when you have respawners?

@kistaro @Goldkin

I really did not expect Splatoon to have so much in common with Unreal Tournament.
