@salameleon@snouts.online Depends on the apps and your security model.

I ran Bitlbee off of my home server for quite awhile to connect to various IRC instances and chats. For running a server, however, a cheap hosted instance is better for availability and security.

I managed to get KeepassXC on the tiny computer, since it seems like the best TOTP manager for the job. Now to see if I can make this thing usable, or if I’ll need to try a different program.

pol-adjacent, on writing in impossible times

After a point, working in computer security made me at least one part near-future SF writer and one part horror writer. Which I guess makes sense.

Some advice from the sf and horror writers’ community for those who, like me, have trouble speaking up in difficult times:

Relatedly, its current heatsink is delicious.

Unfortunately, it overheats when installing large software packages. So I am now letting it install GNOME on a frozen bag of pizza rolls.

I tried doing so in the fridge, but alas, it did not get wifi.

@JulieSqveakaroo Funnily enough, the application will only need six letters (this is a dedicated two-factor machine), and that wouldn’t even be expensive (each display is about $20).

tech, tiny computer

@JulieSqveakaroo Indeed.

The software I will be running on it is expected to have huge font and very minimal input, so it won’t be too bad when the build is completed.

The tiny computer has been forged successfully.

Now to install a touchscreen keyboard and the things I wanted on it.

@qdot My condolences.

I had to bootstrap the Raspbian install for this off of my Pi 2 due to apparent overheating, so I can’t imagine what node must have been like.

... and now I’m wondering if anyone has emerged world on one of these.

Raspberry Pi Zero experiment is continuing apace. I’ve tried pocketing this thing, and it’s practically weightless, which is kind of crazy to me.

I also might have bought a second, since it’s inexpensive and enables further experimenting.

@V this isn't even a theory, this is straight-up canon

re: oot randomizer

@Yarideki@monsterpit.net One of the early items you get in Ocarina of Time normally. They’re typically used for solving torch puzzles in the game, but they also do good (master sword equivalent) damage, at the cost of one stick a hit.

So, basically a consumable standing in for what should be a (reusable) sword.

oot randomizer

@salameleon@snouts.online Very.

Relatedly, I think I used over 70 deku sticks in this run.

Shot: Hint stone: “The Kokiri Sword is in the final chest of Gerudo Thief’s Training.”

Chaser: It was in the last sphere generated by the seed, one chest _after_ finding the boomerang for go mode.
