There's a lot of interest in #GodotEngine today, so here's my perspective & advice, as the tech lead on Cassette Beasts, a 2.5D open world RPG that shipped this year on Steam, Switch and Xbox, using Godot 3.5. 🧵

First: I've not used Unity (or Unreal) for more than just trivial experiments, so I can't provide direct comparisons. But there are still a few general points I can make.

Also: I will never recommend switching engine mid-project. If you're gonna switch, do it between projects.

apple event predictions 

- a feature is mentioned in context of “you’ll be able to use this to do (something) on the vision pro” - i don’t think the hardware for taking stereo photos will make its way to the phone for a few years but maybe they can get something out of the different lenses
- nothing compelling enough for this year’s apple watch is shown to dissuade from current plan of getting a used ultra for the extra battery life
- the pro phone has even more boring colours than usual

What's the deal with kobolds and dragons? look up descriptions of kobolds, and you'll come accross an array of different sprites and creatures. but also it's dragon-obsessed lizards 90% of the time. outside of dragons? there's three main things about kobolds. - they appear in many places - often domestic - to lend a hand with things. - they chill in mines and caves and stuff (who doesn't appreciate a good mineral?) - they get up to mischief Also they seem to mainly be described as humanoid when helping humans but I'm not sure I can back that up. that's just from what I have personally seen so don't press me here. ...but they're sprites why shouldn't they be able to take any form they want. so don't you dare disagree with me either
dragons are fire-breathing cave dwellers that amass hoards of gold and other stuff to take good care of. it's a pretty good match [illustration of kobolds hanging out around a dragon]

@Koi But I have a feeling that in the original Japanese, the hot blooded youth that constantly aspired to surpass 621 and be his own free mercenary lands a lot better as a character.

In a series where they're trying to constantly reinforce fighting for what you believe in, that works very well as a conclusion to the complete game.

@Koi Though, I think part of that is I read Iguazu as a jealous reply guy.

His constant goading and complaining about "that freak" and jealousy of 621, to the point *it became his identity inside of AllMind*, only to get shut down yet again in a final confrontation echoing his first death, felt less powerful to me than Ayre standing in for all of humanity and Coral and proceeding to destroy me. But it is most definitely A Thing and framed the fight well.

@Koi I need to confirm, but I have a feeling his personality became a lot more whiny as translated from the original Japanese.

I can see what they were trying to do with it (set up an awesome confrontation with a persistent rival over the terms of who gets to transcend and why), but it fell flat for me compared to how Ayre or Walter confront you over their own convictions in the other two routes.
