@Dinkysaurus A bunch of folks have stated part of why, but there's kind of a bonus reason: Mastodon was starting to gain traction with one large and popular furry instance, then it fell apart overnight, and that burned a lot of people originally keen to being on the service.
Had that not happened, I think the story here would be different. And it might still be. But it made other options, even terrible ones, more attractive to earlier folks because they stay available. Then it snowballs.

lb, re, "enshittification" and what happens next
Anyway, that all is exceptionally terse, but this is also why I'm kind of an optimist here.
The worst impulses by people in power (bigger than tech bro billionaires) are likely to push to fix this to keep their investments afloat. And as with communication standards before the internet, the players and the game remain mostly the same.
lb, re, "enshittification" and what happens next
This isn't out of the goodness of anyone's heart. It's, quite literally, so Elon and Zuck don't blow up service investment and spying efforts overnight and losing a bunch of eyeballs. Consumers putting pressure on lawmakers helps, too.
And it doesn't fix everything, not by a long shot. But in a strange twist, it does make things easier for consumers suffering at the end of these cycles, especially when they happen all at once.
lb, re, "enshittification" and what happens next
So I've seen lots of links back to Cory's essay since it was written (see last boost). Thing is, there's a fix in the form of common carrier law.
Basically, data portability and interop standards are likely to get laws passed in California and the EU. And there'll be support from state actors (China, etc) on those too, so they don't lose their investments when a service locks the API and folds in the last stage of the enshittification cycle.
holy crap this article is an excellent explanation of enshittification, how and why it happens, and why it's stalling out with Certain Social Media Platforms so hard. https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys
dragon language, otherkin-adjacent, frontmatter
So I'm at the back half of a trip currently, in which translating Norwegian gave me tools to explain how tribal dragon languages work. Figured I'd write it down before I forgot, in a place easier to boost if it helps.
For reasons, I can't really credit myself with inventing this. It also won't be complete and key concepts will differ by dialect. I guess consider it a shared con- or pseudo-language if you prefer it that way.
Anyway, proceeding.

Put together a quick badge for this year's #artfight!
I'll be out of town for the start of it, but should be around to participate in the back half of the event. 💜
zelda totk modding, botw (spoilers?), oc in the video game
So anyway, it turns out backporting from TotK to BotW is more straightforward than expected, so a lot of the stuff being developed for the new game will work in the older one too.
Here are some images from the other project I did this weekend, where I backported GhostCabbit's Freakhound base from TotK to BotW for fun:

Wait, that's not TotK. What--
Dragon. Agender, otherkin, occasional artist and writer, infosec engineer, in about that order. Avatar by Xeirla. Singular they/them preferred.
Also on @Goldkin (meow.social) for follow requests that don't work here.
