peaceful sandbox game, anxiety mention

I discovered the game Meadow yesterday. I hadn’t realized it was something I needed.

It’s difficult to describe how much easier it is to socialize with strangers when the lexicon is limited to trills, chirps, bleets, and limited semaphore in a peaceful sandbox game. Or the wonders this does for social anxiety and fear of social complexity in general.

It’s currently $3 on Steam, in case it’s useful to others: store.steampowered.com/app/486

mood

Taking a week off the bird site has substantially helped. I’m no longer anxious about the daily drip feed of horrors I can’t control, and my schedule has restructured around things that are much better for me.

Art Snacks sent me an inexpensive dip pen that I’ve been doodling around with. While the results are not yet ones I’ll show, I’ve been impressed by how much easier it is to control inking with it. And the ink is water soluble, so it’ll work without blending into my Copics.

($0 from net usage, that is. They still charge ~$8.95 as a utility hookup fee, which we’re more than happy to pay.)

Today was our first $0 electricity bill from PSE since installing our solar panels. It is a joyous day.

rant, anxiety, Twitter

The direct impact is I’ve decided to submarine from Twitter for a few weeks while I work on my art again. I’m hoping that’ll go well. 🐲🎨

rant, anxiety, Twitter

It’s been two months since I’ve been able to art reliably, due in large part to anxiety over news. I’ve been stepping away from it much more, limiting my participation to what I can handle. Especially from Twitter.

This morning, Twitter injected news of the Mandalay Bay shooting _directly into my notifications_ as “News for you”. Which I’ve never seen them do before.

I have never contemplated deleting their app from my devices permanently so strongly as today.

spider, text only

Right on October 1st, an orb weaver decided to spin a web in our garage, near the window.

Even our garage spiders are ready for spooky season. You go, little spider friend.

Camera was taped to a pole, as recommended by someone over on Twitter.

tiny hummingbird, video

Not sure how video works on Awoo, so testing this unlisted.

I wish I could get closer photos and video when hummingbirds are at our feeder. Definitely the best part of mornings.

Food porn, non-vegan

Tonight’s dinner, prep and serving.

We allow the sin of Blue Apron in our house. I’ve been slowly learning how they build complex flavors with a small pool of easily-kept ingredients (garlic, scallions, shallots, and citruses featuring prominently).

Though this is one of their recipes, I’ve managed to replicate their approach on more than one occasion. I’m not sure that makes me a better cook, but the results sure are tasty.

Migration from Twitter, long thoughts about policy

Crosspost: twitter.com/goldkin/status/912

While I’d been considering migrating to Awoo for some time, my reason for doing so now is Twitter has decided to codify some of the conditions that moderation is not in their financial interests as a company.

I have a limited amount of empathy for their position (I do not envy them), but explicitly prioritizing clicks over moderation is where I get off this train.

Hello Awoo! I promised I’d use this thing more, so here I am.

Whoami: I’m an agender, otherkin dragon in tech that wishes they could spend every day making art. I make Copic and 3D art, mostly of scaled things. I’m also a refugee from Second Life and Twitter, and yes, I am the same Goldkin from the AWSW visual novel and community. Any pronouns are fine, with singular they/them preferred.
