It's also probably not the work crew's fault, nor most of Comcast's. Specs and city plans can be inaccurate, underground lines can drift over time, and it's hard to get an accurate reading below concrete without, well, digging. I'm assuming they used their best judgment on this and only knew it was a problem after they struck the line.
Comcast probably had to haggle with the city to run a single line. Typically there's redundancy in these systems, so the fact there wasn't here is... a thing.
At 9PM yesterday, we lost home internet along with much of the greater Seattle area. Still out (I'm tethering over wireless). We figured it was probably a fiber cut, but not a whole lot of information was circulating about it.
Today we learned: at least three cities were disrupted by a single box in the middle of Renton:

I found this backup tape while sorting through boxes — the final resting place of Sound Bytes BBS.
Turns out I can still fire it up in DOSBox and browse through everything as a time capsule.
Though the farewell message suggests the BBS would return in summer of 1996, the world moved on quickly, and the BBS scene — as it was — disappeared just like *that*.
By the time 1996 did roll around, we were busy building our area's first dial-up ISP, and there was no turning back.

Uploaded a beta version of my Traegia avatar onto my Patreon for early access tier, source files will come later on in the month when the avatar is feature complete.
Right now just got a jaw flap for mouth movement, and the fins don't yet have any physics on them, but that'll come. Also will have body customization but that's not been implemented just yet.
Stable release will be in January.

Pokémon SV mild spoilers, glitch mentions
The fact you can abuse glitches in SV now to explore everything has given me a newfound appreciation for how Nintendo accepted this when they built Breath of the Wild, and how their solution to players accessing content early was essentially "go for it". GameFreak tried to meet this half way with gating, and players have immediately overridden their decision.
This helps me appreciate why BotW just gives you the tools from the start. Maybe SV should, too.
