I believe that it's very important for there to be platforms that exist to contest Steam because it's absolutely not in the interest of the consumer to only have one real vendor, but I also think it's important for those potential competitors to consider hardware, software, and OS support, which they often don't do. (Steam's Linux support can still be kinda shitty, but at least they try.)
