@rhess@snouts.online Oooh, right. I wouldn't say that had any particular influence in our case. It *couldn't* have influenced the original fox, and I don't think the second fox's transition to lion was anything more than "lion is just what I am now and it doesn't matter why".

@hystericempress It's definitely feasible to have that reaction in only a few days. Brain chemicals are more readily malleable than body meats.

@Kyresti The world we live in doesn't have to be the world we live in. A very small number of people make it that way. A large number of people know what needs to be done to change that.
The biggest obstacle is that many have not been able to work past various hang-ups that prevent them from taking the necessary actions to force changes. I don't know if they will, but I have hope because I have watched the barriers weakening in real time.

I'm not sure if I've promoted this here at all yet, but I've got an EP coming out on Bandcamp in a week. Releases August 14th. It's up for pre-order (mostly just so that I could make the first track available for preview.) I'll drop another reminder here in a week when it's out.

@starless@snouts.online As a furry now in her 40s who has been around the fandom since her teenage years, I can assure you that there *was* a prevalence of queerness from around 1996 and onward.

The issue is that the queerness demographic took a very limited form, very predominantly white gay men (and white gay trans women who were a very long way away from understanding that about themselves) who had the financial and gender privileges of being able to be online and to travel easily for cons. And where you have disproportionate whiteness and disproportionate financial privilege... you get an abundance of bootlickers and "respectability" queers.

I have existed in environments where "Haha [innuendo about thing someone just said]" was just expected behavior and I definitely did it too. I mostly broke the habit quite while back, though I still slip up now and again.

However, if you're still in the habit of making those jokes, if you still have social circles in which they're common... please just... make them untargeted if they must be made at all. Please do not ever make them in reference to the body of someone who has not consented to that kind of joking around and especially someone with which you don't even have an existing sexual relationship with. It can be immensely triggering to be on the receiving end of that kind of joke.

And if you've done this around me and/or to me, I am not seeking an apology. I do not want an apology. I cannot handle direct confrontation about incidents like this (for several reasons, not the least of which because I don't have access to the therapy I'd need after such a confrontation.) I just want to forget that it happened and assume it won't happen again.

NOTE: If the shoe is on the other foot and I have made that kind of joke at your expense, the above non-confrontation thing doesn't apply and you are absolutely allowed to confront me about it in whatever way you deem necessary.
