Got a router so I can have more than just my PC direct wired to the DSL modem. Now I just need to figure out where underneath the desk to mount it to, where it'll be out of the way but close to the PC's ethernet port (and still be accessible in the event I need to do a hard reset.) At least I still have those heavy duty dual lock fasteners (like Velcro, but plastic nubs that lock into each other kind instead of the hook and loop method. Very strong stuff!) so I can literally put it underdesk
I hate this fucking thing with the fury of a thousand collapsars colliding. I get Linksys wants to keep their devices accessible to anyone that can plug a thing into another thing but they cut out so many of the really advanced features that I'm so used to dealing with as a home network administrator. I've set up my own home network for decades and it really pisses me off that I have almost zero control over how this device works.

@toydragon Oh excellent! That will be a fun weekend project then!
@Kilroy Good news! Looks like openwrt has instructions for getting going on this model! https://openwrt.org/toh/linksys/mr8300
