Are Sony branded arcade cabinets Sony Paystations?

re: Home Improvement!

Absolutely need the window unit because even though I have central air throughout the whole first floor this room appears to be some kind of weird heatsink. The closet isn't insulated properly so it tends to match the temperature and humidity level of the back entry, which explains where the humidity comes from most days. But the heat is a huge mystery. Rest of the house can be a cool 70 degrees, but my room will clock in at 75-83 degrees, even with the closet shut. I can't tell if the heat is coming from a poorly insulated exterior wall, the chimney that runs just outside my bedroom wall that connects to a gas water heater downstairs (which raises some carbon monoxide concerns if that is the case but it's not setting off any alarms so maybe it's fine?) or if it's coming from me, because I practically radiate heat. I very well could be literally heating the room above the ambient temperature of the rest of the house.

Home Improvement!

Room AC arrived today! A shame I can't actually put it to use until Saturday though. I don't have the kind of window these things were designed for (windows that slide UP; mine slide left!) so I have to build a makeshift frame to fit inside the sliding window frame. Going to be an interesting project! Plan is to build a new sash for my sliding window, exact same dimensions as the current sashes. Inside that sash will be a couple of boards to frame out where the A/C will be mounted in. And if I can afford it, I'll likely get some polycarbonate sheeting to fill in the gaps rather than OSB or foam paneling so it still looks somewhat like a window built with an A/C in mind. Might even get a replacement window lock so I can easily unlock and swap out the sashes in the spring/fall!

Wish Dragon was such a good movie, holy shit.

Pool noodles, except instead of styrofoam poles they're noodle dragons that live in your pool

I also replaced the kitchen sink because that was a nasty corroded piece of work that had issues. But now it's shiny and new and the hot water comes out clear and a steady stream instead of a low trickle due to a corroded half shut cutoff (which all are now ball valve style cutoffs, with ball valve shut-offs to the kitchen and bathroom in the event I have to work on the line between the valve and the faucet cutoff)

Just finished a massive project I started two weeks ago, and holy fuck I'm worn out. But hey, the entire hot water line from the water heater to 5 separate faucets has been completely replaced! I had the PEX lines set up and waiting for the changeover two weeks ago, tested the lines for leaks last week, and today I finally cut out the galvanized steel line to the kitchen and made the connections needed to the faucets. And it was a success! No leaks!

...okay the "water" badge is actually just a recolored center of the fire badge since it did have that droplet shape to it already, but you get the idea.

Trying to figure out a clan crest for my Vaporeon is hard! But it doesn't help that I can't spend a lot of time thinking of it either, thanks to life. I did come up with this though, which is just literally a photoshopped together lightning/fire/water gym badge from the Kanto region (given the clan dates back to the Kanto game days I wanted to have some kind of nod to the original 3 Eevee evolution types in the crest.) I kind of like how it looks, but at the same time... not really?

Aw yeah getting a concept sketch done to show off later :D Excited!

Worldbuilding, pokesona

Parents! Still no names for them either because I suck at names, but mother is a Flareon who works with a blacksmith as the forge; pokemon flames are much more reliable and produce higher quality materials! Sure there may be better suited pokemon for the job, but she was available and had good enough control over her fire to get in, fine tuning her abilities as time went on.

The father is a Houndoom that works in the pits as a fighter! Legally of course; he did used to fight in the underground rings but decided he wanted to persue a more.. legal profession for the sake of his family. A lot safer too! A lot of "anything goes" in the underground rings. He's not world famous or anything, but he has made a decent name of himself in the Hoenn region! Still working on winning a title bout, but he's got a pretty good winning average!

Pokesona!

I would also like to note that the cerulean markings are similar to that of the Illumina Bayleef's markings, but constant and not glowing.

Pokesona!

Correction: Aqua Ring alone does not allow him to manipulate water like a water bender. Combined with Water Pulse he would be able to use Aqua Ring to draw water from various sources, then use supersonic waves to manipulate the water as he saw fit

re: Pokesona!

Officially he does not live in the Pokemon universe where humans catch and train Pokemon; he lives more in a fan-type universe where humans and pokemon live as equals in society. Not to say that there aren't humans or pokemon that view the other as a lesser subservient species, but those are rare outliers.

Pokesona!, genitalia mention

Okay! So! New pokesona! I've had vaporeons on the mind lately so figured fuck it, I'm going to have a new pokesona to the list! One without any... peculiar quirks perhaps (my Charizard is a hypersexually aggressive Rocket experiment gone rogue (though he has calmed down considerably!) and my Goodra has a glandular issue that makes it produce slime nonstop.)

So I bring to you... Puddles! The Vaporeon! Why is he called Puddles? Because as a young Eevee in the Hoenn region he was constantly playing in puddles every chance he got! This also strongly hinted at what kind of evolutionary path he would end up following when the time came; it was no surprise even to his fire-type parents (Flareon and Houndoom) that when it came time to take the pilgrimage to Kantos he chose to touch the clan's water stone in the Hall of Evolution.

Puddles (whose actual name is still undetermined; that is just his nickname) stands at just over 3 feet tall and just under 6 feet long. His skin is a rich azure blue in color normally, but depending on his health/energy level this can be faded to a light sky blue. It's a good visual indicator of his health. He's got some light cerulean swirls throughout his body that don't change colors. Thanks to his natural abilities, his skin is always cool and dry to the touch, even after soaking up lots of water via his natural abilities Water Absorb or Hydration.

He has a few other abilities that allow him to do interesting things! He knows Acid Armor, which allows him to easily shift between solid and liquid states, even outside of water. This could theoretically allow him to shapeshift even, but he mostly uses it to either avoid physical attacks (or phase through certain objects) or to be a little shit and hide as a puddle of water to spritz unsuspecting "victims" in the face. He does have an impish nature, after all!

This also allows him to be literally genderfluid, giving him the ability to shift his genitalia to suit whatever need he might have (which for all intents and purposes we'll assume his genitals will be similar to a dolphin's, so yes he can have an incredibly dexterous prehensile penis that can extend up to just below his ribcage.) Even though he can have the genitals of any gender, he does prefer to go by he/him or they/them most of the time.

He also knows Aqua Ring, which while the official description says it creates a veil of water around the user, we'll just assume this will also give him the ability to manipulate water around him, kind of like a water bender if you've ever seen the Avatar cartoons.

His abilities/moveset also include Water Pulse and Aurora Beam, but I haven't figured out how those would work in normal everyday activities.

Oops stupid late in the evening now but tomorrow I'll share details of a new pokesona I accidentally made up! A Vaporeon nicknamed Puddles :D

Cooking tip! Safe fire extinguishing!

If you're cooking, sooner or later you're going to end up with a kitchen fire. Never assume you won't. Doesn't matter how good you are, the risk is always there. Maybe something greasy dripped onto a super hot element and caught fire. Maybe your heating element decided to shit itself and burn something that shouldn't be burning. Maybe an appliance decided it wanted to heat things up in a way it shouldn't. Or maybe you weren't paying attention and now you've got a small grease fire in your pan or on your stovetop. Oh no!

One of the most important tools you should have in your kitchen in the event of a fire is.... well, obviously a class ABC fire extinguisher (it is imperative you have an ABC rated extinguisher, as that will take care of ordinary combustibles such as wood or paper (A), liquid flammables like grease and oil (B), and electrical fires (C) where you don't want to electrocute everything in sight. There's also D rated, but you almost never need one of those outside a metalworking shop) and in most cases you will likely use one of these if for example your garbage can or blender or outlet is burning. You don't always need to waste a fire extinguisher and ruin everything you're cooking in the process though, and that's where baking soda comes in.

When it comes to kitchen fires, even though water is extremely accessible, it's not always the right choice. Especially if it's an electrical or grease fire. Water and live mains power is always a bad idea, and water is more likely to spread a grease fire, making things far worse. Especially if it's hot grease. Nothing like flaming gobs of goo spitting everywhere! Probably the most important thing you can have is baking soda! That's right, good ol' sodium bicarbonate. Hell, you probably have some in your fridge to keep the fridge smelling nice!

A good example of this is I had a stovetop fire just boiling water. That's right, just a clean pot of water on an element. And boom, fire. Apparently something was in the drip tray that wasn't cleaned out properly before I used it. It happens. The fire wasn't very big, and was mostly contained within the drip tray itself. So the pan came off quickly, and not knowing the actual source of fuel for the fire I didn't want to just dump the heating water on it (that's probably not good for the red hot element either) so I went to the fridge and grabbed a small box of baking soda! Sprinkled some on carefully until the fire was extinguished, and back into the fridge it went! Barely used much at all!

Now if the whole stovetop were on fire I'd probably not waste time with baking powder and just attack it with the fire extinguisher I keep nearby. Anything I was trying to cook would likely be ruined at that point, and potentially the stovetop itself would also be damaged. But this was a small fire, so sprinkling some baking soda worked to put it out while minimizing the damage. I'm going to have to scrub the drip tray and element real good to get the charred stuff off, but it's all useable, no potentially harmful chemicals everywhere, and no risk of making things worse with water.
