misfortune of the day: bike crash. near miss from a pickup truck that didn’t see me in an intersection. (Lost control after evading)

good fortune: my injuries are mild sprains and abrasion. Coat, pants, & helmet were adequate.

also good: truck driver stopped and helped me get to work, taking my bike along. A bike repair company shows up weekly, I’m getting an appointment.

also good fortune: onsite doctor had a slot available.

At this point the part that hurts the most is the tetanus shot

@Kistaro also, the implication that poor people are uniquely bigoted is wrong when it actually tends to be the rich and "dapper" and powerful ones; also, the dnc can barely even commit to a weak platform while people are clearly demanding change in any form; also, the worst things tend to get broad bipartisan support anyway; etc etc

:/

I am genuinely afraid that the DNC will lose seats in the midterms because they never regained the trust of the impoverished people they are sincerely attempting to support and improve the lives of through their policies, but they denounced as “deplorables” and ignored subsequently. Rural poor are poor.

It’s so frustrating to watch people I’ve known for years, who grew up resisting authority and distrusting government, start believing professional politicians, marketers, and other liars who would own society just because they started stealing your words and wearing your clothes.

Politics hasn’t changed. Those who would rule did not magically become trustworthy. You just suddenly became useful to them when you could vote, pay tax, and die in their wars, so they learned to tell lies you’d hear.

It is springtime.

Pros: nice bike weather
Cons: so much tree bukkake

Lost four games in a row with Even Paladin because I ran into Murloc Paladin and Cubelock, lost with Quest Rogue to Murloc Paladin, finally won one with Quest Rogue against Shudderwock Shaman. This meta is stupid and I think I’m going for Odd Quest Warrior soon because this is just blind paper-scissors-rock where I don’t have a rock because Cubelock is too expensive.

Okay. I finished a masters-level degree today and I'm kind of proud of myself.

US Politics, Net Neutrality (+++)

The Senate passed the Congressional Review Act to reverse the FCC's repeal of net neutrality under Ajit Pai. :D

There is a unique nonnegative integer equal to “the number of distinct humans on Earth, past or present, who have deliberately tasted the milk of a housecat” and I would be surprised if this integer was zero and yet highly distressed to contemplate its probable nonzero nature

I wish the megacorporation I work for had part of its division trying to solve aging and death working from the office I work in because frankly that’s a lot more important than updating a web browser and I’d rather work in that

Oh boy. github.com/signalapp/Signal-De

tl;dr Signal Desktop is based on Electron, which in turn is based on Chromium 58-59, and it seems to be affected by bugs that have been fixed in Chrome/Chromium 60-62.

Gotta love #Electron. As somebody said "now everyone is running 5 different instances of old insecure versions of the most scrutinized and attacked application on Earth."

#InfoSec

To the unknown stranger who graffitied “LOCK ->” on the inside of this bathroom door that looks like it should lock to the left instead of the right but doesn’t: I genuinely thank you

If you misconfigure a server in such a way that it causes spanning tree conflicts that cascade across the network and take down corporate email, phones, our website and everything else in the same datacenter... once it's a learning experience. Twice and I'm disabling your sudo permissions...

Especially I have to drive to the datacenter to physically unplug the box because of your oops...
