I hate to smash the story because I know it means a lot to some people and definitely has a better angle than the old games.... BUT it does fit into the category of triple-A SDDW (sad dad dead wife) games.

I think I've played this game enough to know if I'd like it or not. I'm not able to get into this game! I dunno what's up. Apparently I disagree with a unanimity of 118 video game critics and nearly 9000 thousand metacritic users.

The combat is a bit rough with fiddly rpg elements and an unfriendly camera. Harder difficulties exacerbate this. So if you need a game to be stupidly hard to hold your attention I guess it can claim that? The power of stalling out fights to use your cooldown skills and just throwing your axe repeatedly seems like it's not properly checked. Outside of combat I have a rough time navigating these enclosed hyperdetailed caves and oh god the climbing sequences should just be cutscenes.

I think I might avoid the Spider-Man game since there's a pattern with these Sony exclusives. Though, in retrospect, maybe it's weird that I was able to enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn?
