a government agency without any review process, which can freely destroy any records it wants to, is merely a nepotistic gang of good ol' boys who can do anything, and by all rights should not be considered a government agency.
This is completely a separate thing that pisses me off from anything these guys are doing or specious reasons for why they're doing it, but that part really pisses me off.

and, on a more personal level, I'm just now realizing "a group of people who can do whatever the hell they want because they, of course, are Good and Right and the reason they're Good and Right is that someone who likes them says they are," is very much the society I grew up in.
