1. Okay, so an abuser created a crisis situation, lied to gaslight us, and then backed off to look magnanimous. This is OBVIOUSLY MANIPULATIVE, nobody should fall for this and of course the media will play along.
2. Do we really need someone doing a border police function? I know most Mastodonians would scream FUCK NO at this point. The milder version of FUCK NO is, I feel really uncomfortable with how any potential need gets conflated with racism and grabbing free labor.

Even if that function's legit, the government agency which handles it should have as much accountability and budget review as let's say the FBI. Even if there needs to be an agency it needs to operate differently. Just because you aren't pulling toddlers away from their parents and slamming them behind chain link partitions does NOT mean you're awesome no matter what we're supposed to relievedly think at this point.

3. And I'm REALLY uncomfy with these particular guys doing the function. There's gotta be some accountability for what's already happened.
And if it's okay for me to be paranoid and go straight into military history, I come away feeling like ICE has been built up as an SS because 45 and his know they can't depend on the Heer if they're challenged.
