homophobia, uspol, Coming Out Day
Hey, something for you crazy kids;
Today’s National Coming Out Day, which I didn’t previously know. I’m Queer!
It’s today b/c there was a huge rally in DC on October 11, 1987, prompted by the Reagan Administration’s response to AIDS and a SCOTUS decision that sodomy was criminal between consenting adults in their home.
I did not previously know about the rally or SCOTUS decision; I found out about Reagan’s complicity only AFTER I left Georgia, for perspective.

@Leucrotta was thinkin bout that demon today when i was visiting with my social worker
she didnt say anything its just "[COUNTY] Behaviorial Health Center" can be word swapped with "[COUNTY] Mental Health Center"
and then i remember the demon closed down most mental health hospitals in the US in the 80s(?) and i got mad all over again
learning that was the first Bad Thing(tm) i learned, & it was in high school (after being brainwashed about him being good)

@Leucrotta the second thing was piecing together my mom's temper tantrums from the 90s ("the gays deserved it")
linking it to the demon administration got me even angrier (this was before i realised i was gay)
and it just snowballed from there

@DrSagan seriously I feel terrible about everyone younger than me being lied to, *and* how I was lied to while it was going on.
Seriously AIDS and the Reagan era in general was crazy to live through; unlike Covid, where coronaviruses have always been terrible, retroviruses were NEW. Nobody’d seen them before and we were supposed to ignore it cause it was killing only officially bad people.

@DrSagan but we were all supposed to just think our beloved president was a fucking saint. It’s a little like the end of the Cold War, where I saw Lech Walesa GOING TO PRISON for fighting the Communist regime (I’ll add we weren’t supposed to notice the unions were the good guys here), and Gorbachev putting his neck on the line, and somehow WE were ending Communism via our constant saber rattling.

@Leucrotta this is also why i stopped going to protests
there is one 'figure head' in portland (luis ruiz?) who keeps taking credit for other protestors work, and also he antagonizes the cops, putting the other protestors in danger
not really about the main thread anymore
@Leucrotta i made a pact with myself that if i ever see that motherfucker again im either
1) going to assault him
or
2) cause a scene and then immediately leave
he is a terrible person and no im not happy about him taking credit for the arrests in late june that i was apart of, and all the work we did, but in the newspapers he took credit for me and my comrades' work and arrests
(2) not really about the main thread anymore
@Leucrotta in hindsight i think his name is luis ruiz?
i really, really hate him
thankfully hes pdx local and im no longer in pdx

@DrSagan I’d suggest it’s not so much we are always narcissistic so much as we have a batch of places which plug into narcissism- great man stuff, the down side of our focus on individualism, the presidency as an office, historical revisionism- and that’s dangerous enough with just kind of an asshole like Reagan, Obama, Musk, Bezos, McArthur etc. An actual narcissist would be and IS a true threat to every life in this country.

@Leucrotta just realised that our country's personality is narcissism
because what other personality type takes (demands) credit for something that someone else did?
