It occurs to me that Zen parables work in part because of Japanese manners. If an esteemed master overfills your cup with tea, there's a bucket of dirty water on the walkway etc, your trained response is to not say anything, so there's an element of acknowledging reality as not-what-you're-supposed-to-say.
