@chimerror he was drifting left - like he was enthusiastically pro New Deal, and being friends with REH was huge for him cause Howard was *Irish* American. But he wasn’t that tactful, and I vaguely remember at one point he told his wife how much he liked Mein Kampf, etc…

I’m convinced that, had he lived longer, Lovecraft would have eventually had friends who were Black, and also would’ve completely not understood why saying the most horrifyingly racist shit upset them.
