An annoying thing is, to me at least, trying to be simply heard means every marginalized group talks like it’s the only marginalized group out there. F’rex I’m close to barking “you’ve never met Black people have you?” at someone complaining (justifiably) about transphobia, which would help nobody.
Living with being either invisible or a villain makes it hard to see that as “we’re trying to be heard” rather than “yet more folks telling me YOU PEOPLE don’t count and I need to do stuff for them.”
@chimerror I feel like there’s stuff specific to any minority but we all share similar experiences being silenced and downplayed. I wish there were some sort of great shortcut for saying, f’rex, I’m complaining about antisemitism but acknowledge everyone else is going through shit, possibly worse, and a lot of it’s exactly the same shit.
@Leucrotta exactly! like of course it's never exactly the same, but the same tactics crop up a lot!
@Leucrotta God same
I have to stop myself from going "welcome to what black people have been dealing with" because I know it's not the point and would likely just cause them to retweet in whiteness rather than understand that the tactics are shared because the struggles are generally linked
