One very specific generational thing for me has been, early in adult my life the sheer glut of material meant acknowledging naw, I don't love everything X-Men. But I've been slow to acknowledge I don't love everything Star Wars - even with all the books and comics, only now does it feel like there's a ton of canon material where any fan needs to pick and choose.
@Earthshine I think before, comics and paperbacks had that feel of being canon only if you wanted it to be, even though Lucasfilm had to okay everything. Even without the Disney YOU MUST HAVE THIS streaming series feels more official some.
@Leucrotta they were all canon before and more or less consistent about it. And they all *felt* canon. But since Disney took over they've retconned a lot of it including even parts of the original trilogy, so they no longer have a consistent timeline, thus *nothing* is canon, and everything is. There's no respectability.
