religious y thoughts, I swear I'm sober...

I was using the toilet and thought about the four noble truths again. Probably because I have Zen Flesh Zen Bones in the bathroom in case I'm on the pot for a while.

If you're alive, you're going to suffer. You are going to get sick; you are going to die, you are going to experience heartbreak and loss. Even if you're pretty sure you've severed all attachments (that's such a subjective judgment and an emotional convenience that it's unlikely to be true).

To not suffer at all would require you to be a Buddha truly beyond all things, to exist in the Pure Land. While trying to avoid suffering is normal and okay to some extent, really going nuts with it is not going to work, that attachment will create more suffering. And likewise, being really emotionally invested in suffering is a dead end, if there's anything that can create suffering it's trying to justify yourself with having been/being miserable.

It's suffering. It's just a normal thing that happens. I realize I'm shit at remembering this when I'm deep in it, but it doesn't need to mean more than just being uncomfy.
