Tbh I think part of the association and sheer hate is drag hits only *some* of the dissonance as transition; a trans woman suggests by merely existing that gender isn’t an immutable truth. But the drag queen suggests not just gender isn’t immutable truth, but a JOKE. That an over the top performance doesn’t really say much about actual gender and a huge F150, firearms and exaggerated heterosexuality isn’t too different from a huge wig, huge heels and huge falsies.
It’s a little like how TERFs hate the idea someone else might get their special claim at identity. It hits just the wrong spot in their egos. It’s a little like how telling me I’m white or not a real minority is a bad spot in *my* ego (except having PoCs merely *survive* doesn’t hit that insecurity).
