Old Person story time/2001

Okay, so I may have mentioned this before.

Back when I was a fairly little coyote, there was this show, The Electric Company - it was supposed to be Sesame Street for slightly older kids, fun but educational TV. I have no clue how something so focused on Black people and NYC got air time in rural Georgia public broadcasting but it was a brilliant show.

A LOT of the educational parts were cartoons which taught you about bits of written English - for instance Tom Lehrer contributed songs which got cartoons, about the -ly suffix or silent e. Some cartoons repeated a theme inspired by 2001, which was still pretty recent at that point. There'd be a 2001 style monolith and to the tune of Also Sprach Zarathustra, it'd crumble to reveal a syllable, like OO or AWK, which they'd repeat several times so you'd know how to pronounce it in the future.

So you can imagine how surprised I was when I finally was old enough to watch 2001... and there were monoliths... which didn't crumble at all!
