@frost @certifiedperson Congrats!
@frost oh i *love* that candle holder!
@certifiedperson it is BEAUTIFUL
and LED pillar candles for it are like $10 :<
@frost oh bluh :c
something to look forward to getting next month?
@certifiedperson it's "just" $10, so I'm kinda tempted to get it at the store today >,,>
but maybe we should hold off
I just hope whatsherface doesn't force her way into our room when we're not here and then get Super Extra Pissed at us for having a candle because we haven't replaced it with an LED one yet
@certifiedperson I wish we could get one for $5 instead of two for $10.
@certifiedperson ...also planning on getting a headphone stand for our new headphones (Ikea sells a cheap one) because we have absolutely nowhere to put them
I mean we'd have nowhere to put a headphone stand either but whatever
at least if we do squeeze it in somewhere the headphones won't get busted
@frost headphone stands are a thing?
maybe you won't find one large enough / maybe they'll be too spency, but what about those hooks with adhesive & putting that higher up on a wall?
(pictures of roughly what i'm talking about attached)
@certifiedperson ha like we can REACH any walls
that would require Contortions™
and apparently it exists
"headphone and tablet stand" (we don't have any tablets to- [Wii U gamepad!!] OH)
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/moejlighet-headset-and-tablet-stand-white-00493846/
also sheesh being able to copy-paste images is fucking sweet
@certifiedperson it's $6
@certifiedperson ...oh! one of those could theoretically go on the /side of our desk/
I'm not sure they'd be big enough, though? I dunno.
And I'm not sure they'd be repositionable if we have to reorganize.
@frost oh cool!
the hook things are repositionable, but yeah i think my size is the biggest they get? Afaik. Your headphone stand is probably a similar price tbh
@frost options may include:
- taking the candle with you when you leave
- leave a message that says "we are not using the candle, we will replace it with an LED candle"
But yeah that seems annoying that you can't buy just one?
@certifiedperson ye
on the other paw
the 2-pack (apparently $12 not $10) seems vaguely cheap crappy and there's a more expensive (also a store brand but it's the More Expensive Store Brand, whyyyyyy do you do this Target) $12 single candle that we should probably go for instead.
@certifiedperson also I measured our holder and apparently we need a 3-inch base. (Height is unrestricted; it looks like the sheath thing that's in there is about 5 inches.)
@certifiedperson which is important because some of the candles are 4 inches wide and they wouldn't fit.
@certifiedperson also I'm a little confused about the sheath thing
is it plastic? some kind of glass? really not sure!
@certifiedperson (also: sheaths :3c)
@frost they look pretty similar to me?
it does sound like either way you functionally pay $12 for one candle, if you'll only use one.
But if you buy the two-pack you'll have a spare if the first dies. (But also you'll have to put the spare somewhere.)
idk what other factors there are for quality with these candles. Tho i did just remember one of them said made of wax and that seems like a bad idea given how hot your place gets?
@certifiedperson yeahhhh I do not like the wax. Always afraid about picking up our wax votive candles (which are the "Threshold" more expensive brand, and they're not that great).
I was thinking the more expensive one might look better, but maybe not. Who knows. It's impossible to tell without buying both.
@certifiedperson a "spare" candle would actually be quite nice; we can put it somewhere and have more light.
We're not very impressed with our votives, they don't light up the room at ALL (the goal is to be able to use this as low-level lighting instead of CONTORTIONS to turn on a lamp). Hopefully these bigger candles will put out more light.
@certifiedperson also also these use AAs and we have a /charger/ for AAs.
...Maybe we should buy another pack of AA batteries as well. But those are expensive. Why is EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE.
@certifiedperson we could probably get alkalines for cheap but I don't like using disposable batteries
@certifiedperson there's the Wiimote, there's the fake Wiimote (probably empty as we never use it), the PS3 remote... the TV remote uses AAAs I think... don't we have more batteries than that? where did they all go?
@certifiedperson oh yeah we lost two of them inside the fucking Ikea milk frother that immediately broke and the battery compartment door jammed
@certifiedperson ...we need new masks but I don't know where to find ones that
– are N95, not KN95s, and so have headloops instead of earloops
– actually fit
– aren't ridiculously expensive ($30?? hi we don't need that many especially if we don't know whether they'll even fit and work properly or not)
@frost where did you find your current / last masks?
@certifiedperson Home Depot (the hardware store)
@frost oh damn that sucks!
@certifiedperson ... :<
the fancy candle is on SALE
$6 instead of $12
but it has a "try me" button and it... flickers
not just the usual flame flicker but a very high frequency strobe effect
maybe that's a problem with the "try me" thing? still though, I worry.
@certifiedperson We can't try the lower-tier candles (actually more expensive) to test.
on the plus side, both models have 5-hour timers.
@frost ??? Why the heck would someone make strobing candles? That does seem like something wrong with the candle. But understandable if you don't wanna take the risk that they're all like that
@certifiedperson yeahhhh I don't know
tried two of them and they both did it so I'm worried it's a design flaw
@frost oof yeah, seems like it might be
@certifiedperson on the plus side, they're a lovely color!
@frost i think it might be designed to look like a flickering candle? But it is also Very flickery
@certifiedperson might get the fancy wax one
if nothing else
it's $6
we paid that much getting here today
@Leucrotta @certifiedperson Thanks! *wags* It was only $5, too.
We also got a really cool candleholder that we're going to have to remove the candle from and buy an LED one for (at some point... money), a mug for tea, and a... I don't even know what it is, some kind of china. Oh and a little 9-oz juice glass we can put nutrition shakes in so they're fancier. :3
This is all (well except for the juice glass) like PEAK our grandma's aesthetic and I love that. Need Moar Knickknacks!
