@Leucrotta I was also thinking of making instant mashed potatoes instead of mac and cheese. Less cooking work; more cleanup.
@Ylfingr That sounds really good, and it's less energy intensive so hopefully will take up fewer of your snacks while making 'em.
@Leucrotta Yeah! Some salt and pepper, and it'll be great.
@Leucrotta Also also, our pot has no lid so boiling water is effectively impossible (though we haven't yet tried putting a plate or something on top, that was my plan for the pasta). Potatoes don't need boiling, just hot.
(Fuckers stole our lid when we left our pot in the kitchen months and months ago. We found the pot in the sink... never found the lid.)
@Leucrotta Snackbag acquired. *munches*
@Leucrotta One cup, two cups. Water is on the stove, salt and peppered!
I wonder if we can mix the potatoes up in our bowl, to avoid dirtying the pot. It can fit all the mixed-up potatoes, but I think I'd be worried about spilling... probably best to keep with the pot.
@Leucrotta I wonder what spices would taste good. I'd try garlic, but we've had pregarliced potatoes from the store and it was just, WAY too much. Maybe rosemary though...?
@Ylfingr Parsley should *probably* be safe. If you have garlic or onion powder you can add some gradually after it's cooked. If you wanted a little more spice, there's paprika (which you might not have onhand as it can get more expensive)
@Leucrotta Ooh, never thought about parsley!
Huh, after, not just adding it to the mixing water?
I don't think we have paprika on hand but we DO have some fancy shit like ancho chili powder (or whatever it's called)! Bless food stamps. We can get nice food without worrying about money.
@Ylfingr yeah. It'll mix in okay if you're fast, and you can taste your potatoes while you're doing it so you can tell if you want more garlic powder.
@Leucrotta OH! I completely did not think of the whole "can taste it" aspect.
@Leucrotta (We have acquired the potats (just salt and pepper this time, I wanted to play it safe) and they are good!)
@Leucrotta Oh, that's a good idea. There's the chocolate almonds, but we ate most of them earlier. I think we also have a bag of "trail mix" snacky stuff, also mostly eaten, but if we eat both...
