@Kusimanse Hamish.
My great grandfather apparently asked my parents on his death bed never to name a kid "Hermann." (You can imagine how happy he and his brother Adolph were when the obvious happened.) Apparently to Anglophile Jewish New Yorkers with no Scottish ancestry whatsoever, Hamish is an appropriate substitute. I've actually run into two other people with the name, a Scot and a Kiwi.
@Kusimanse nobody gets Hamish unless they’re Scots. When I was working Ren Faire, my group was technically English only, but I insisted that I could use the name, because fuck it, it’s my actual name.
@Leucrotta I see, and that's a reasonable sort of request to make. (Even if, gender speaking, you're a her-mann. herm man. *kindest teasing*)
Hamish, hmm. *looks it up* Scot for Seamus. Which is a variant of James, neither of these things I new. :)
