good morning

didn't sleep all that well last night

oh well

I suspect I would be less sleepy if it wasn't for dst

I didn't realize that was about to happen

or well, I knew, but it wasn't exactly a concern on my mind

work

now that my script is a bit stable I can focus on this oh so important that I've been yelled at to be working on months: writing test documents for a feature that they are in active meetings to completely redesign

I hope the futility of being told to work on this is clear

I've been invited to none of the meetings

I did get to start watching Delicious in Dungeon (we chose the English dub) and it's absolutely delightful and I should totally get art of Chimmy and Ada as Laios and Marcille respectively because it's so them

I love a show that is mostly an excuse to set characters up to infodump about their special interests

and I haven't heard the Japanese voices yet, but the English ones are absolutely solid so far

sure there's that capitalism continuing to devour the world but damn if they don't manage to create some good opiates

delicious in dungeon, dungeon meshi, very slight spoilers

one of my favorite ways to analyze media recently is to imagine that we're seeing the world being played out in a ttrpg and trying to imagine what system the players are playing and which players are playing whom

it's especially rich in a world very clearly inspired by that type of game

my basic take is that Marcille's player is a classic beer and dice crunchy D&D player being unknowingly invited to a rules-light story game, and while she's slow to warm up, she eventually does

Senshi is very obviously a GMPC because the GM has been going back and forth with Laios's player about the dungeon ecology for months and finally found a couple of players (Marcille and Chilchuck) to round out the group

the system is most definitely the type of thing where I bet there are no stats or hard moves, but characters have traits they can call on and attempt to create narrative points

so Marcille just has like the "trained mage" trait to cover all her spells

definitely something more like PBtA than D&D

work

I started writing some stub tests after dithering on whether to create a new file

I've been kind of at it for two hours so I guess a break seems warranted

the problem with me taking breaks from day job is that any taste of my life outside of work is more than enough to attract me away from work

the problem is that if I do not take breaks I will burn out

Follow

@chimerror That's part of why social media is such a siren song for me. What if, throughout the day, I could take little 30-180 second breaks to remember the rest of the world exists, without leaving my desk or doing anything special? holy shit that's seductive.
