hey @Leucrotta, I'm making stickers to slap over the bible quote stickers we find on the train sometimes – got any cool Norse mythology quotes? :3
@frost I mean the obvious one is "Cattle die, kinsmen die, I too shall die, but I know one thing that does not die, the good deeds of the dead." Havamal 78. You could probably shorten it to "Cattle die, kinsmen die, I too shall die" and there are enough Asatru around Berkeley that it'd be instantly recognized.
@Leucrotta like, why should I care about your god
this Norse one though? It doesn't depend on any particular belief system, and isn't about being passive sheep.
@Leucrotta What's the Sköll and Hati quote again? And does it have a reference citation to match the bible quote ones?
@frost Here we go, it's in stanza 51 of the Voluspa
http://www.voluspa.org/gylfaginning51-54.htm
their translation is different from the one I memorized, they give;
"the wolf shall swallow the sun; and this shall seem to men a great harm. Then the other wolf shall seize the moon, and he also shall work great ruin"
@Leucrotta Ooooh. Thanks!
And what's the one you memorized, also? Both'd be cool. :3
@frost "A wolf shall devour the sun, and this will be counted a great misfortune. A second wolf shall devour the moon and this, too, shall cause great mischief." So similar...
... you notice nobody mentions which of the two wolves eats what. Except here's where it gets interesting; https://vikingr.org/other-beings/skoll-hati
@Leucrotta Huhh neat! :3c
@frost @Leucrotta Heck yeah, celestial body vore
@spottyfox @frost @Leucrotta YEAHHHH
*licks fangs ominously*
@spottyfox @frost @Leucrotta Gonna bring about Ragnarök, as a bit.
@Ylfingr @spottyfox @frost @Leucrotta (and a byte)
@Leucrotta yeah! Yeah.
I'm definitely gonna use that one. Infinitely better than the "oh God loves and watches over you!" that those bible stickers talk about.
