@Leucrotta I'd look into bus driving, but AC Transit wants 3 years of clean driving hiatory, and SamTrans wants 2. I haven't looked at Muni or VTA but I imagine they're similar.
For semi trucks, Schneider wants 1 year. But Swift says nothing about that AFAWCT...
@Leucrotta Maybe local deliveries would be less stringent, though?
@Leucrotta Also on the lesson
holy fuck I was SO MUCH LESS STRESSED than when we were doing it with our parents. None of this "don't look at the speedometer! you'll CRASH AND DIE!!!" shit. Hell, even staying in the lane was easier / less terrifying.
@frost @Leucrotta looking at the speedometer for a few seconds: famously going to instantly turn the car into a giant fireball. meanwhile 99% of americans driving: *texting*
@wolfe @Leucrotta YEPPP
@frost Oh yeah. Most people hiring want you to use/trash out your own car. And then there's all the Uber/Lyft gig stuff.
@Leucrotta OH! I was thinking things like grocery store resupply trucks and whatnot. You mean like, pizzas and things? ...Is there a delivery market that isn't pizzas? (I can't stand pizza, even the smell of it...)
Gig stuff sounds great too, very low barrier to entry, but probably isn't reliable enough for rent. But better than nothing for sure.
@Leucrotta For some raisin I figured non-gig delivery services would provide you a company vehicle. Didn't know they were just the employees' vehicles with a sign slapped on top.
@frost Not a terrible idea. I'm basically self-taught, which is a long story, and it took me *ages* to pick up stuff like looking several cars ahead to check what was going on, swapping lanes on the freeway without my heart in my mouth, etc.
@Leucrotta oof gods /freeways/
yeah
our parents did teach us looking ahead at the horizon instead of right in front of us, at least.
@Leucrotta I think it went quite well! I was STUNNED how natural driving felt, even after so long.
The guy thinks we should come back for the other two lessons in the nominal 6-hour course (of course 💰). And that we should find some way to practice. If we knew anyone local with a car...
Today was just basic driving on city streets and a bunch of turning.
