I could never be a scientist. I take treating animals as people way too seriously.

"No you can't treat animals like people! That would be *gasp* ANTHROPOMORPHIZING THEM!" Who decided that the prior assumption was that animals are Lesser and you need proof to challenge that? Because, no.

@frost That's the thing, though, they're NOT HUMAN. The downside of avoiding anthropomorphization is that yeah in the past it's been this Victorian hierarchical view of the world, but the up side is that these animals have their own perspective on the world, and it'd be a mistake for me to assume everyone else experiences the world the same way I do. If that makes sense?

@Leucrotta Yeah! It makes sense when you think about it like that.

I'm still pissed about the whole thing where you're basically not allowed to treat animals as not-inferior as a baseline, though. And the whole "give wolves numbers, not names, so you don't think of them as people" thing.

Like, once we as a society fix the Victorian hierarchy thing, THEN we can actually go about figuring out animals' cool perspectives! But as it is, not so much.
