I love how Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is about retrieving magic lingams associated with Adi Shankara, which is sorta like having Indy retrieve a fictionalized 95 Theses which for some reason zap people.
“You must go to Wurrtemburg. There you will retrieve das Luthers-buch for us, and bring life back to the land.”
* massive very catchy John Williams*
@Leucrotta I would watch a movie that exoticizes Christianity like that
@DialMforMara the third one did, kinda. “An avatar drank from this cup which was filled with his blood during his execution, so now it heals all wounds when you drink from it,” is pretty D&D if you don’t grow up around Christianity and Arthurian myth.
@Leucrotta I did grow up around those things, more or less, and this is the first time anyone's actually explained the Holy Grail to me
@Leucrotta Unless they explained it in Indiana Jones 3 and I forgot
@DialMforMara after Jesus’ execution (the spear used to check that he was dead is significant too), St. Joseph, Mary and other associates take the Grail to England or southern France (specifically the castle of Montsegur; the Nazis really *were* interested in finding it and searched the place after France fell) according to myth.
I’m not Christian and have never read the entire NT but afaik the Grail doesn’t show up there, it’s purely apocryphal.
@Leucrotta Good to know. I know about the spear from Evangelion.
Really by making Indy IV about aliens instead of idk Bodhidharma’s walking cane or something, they sorta missed a chance to have the series be Indy Dicks With Artifacts From the Major Religions.
