Remembering that time little-talked about animated show Lloyd In Space had a character whose species didn't choose a gender for themselves until during puberty and have an androgynous appearance. Both the cis girls and boys attempt to force them to choose by upselling how great gender specific activities are saying one choice is better (And both realizing it was bad of them). It ends with the character refusing to disclose whatever choice was made, saying its their own identity so too bad.
