Cell phones weren't a thing yet when this show was made so instead they have Tamagotchis that also work for wireless communication somehow???
Look the important thing is that the main character the CEO of the mecha-making company battled their tamagotchi monsters in the second episode and it was super cute.

"I heard from my Dad that some animals can mutate because of hormones" is meant to justify a childlike fear of monsters in the sewer but what it actually reads like to me is that HRT turns people into hot kaiju monsters.

If you avatar isn't a giant pink spirit that may be the embodiment of a mindjacking disease that is also self-sentient and capable of forming complicated plans but is also deflected by electromagnetic fields (maybe??? it's not clear) AND MIGHT ALSO be turning people into monsters (also not clear) then don't even @ me
