And no, something really Has changed. Call it the Mayan Long Count if you will, but something's Different this time around.
We have Several generations now who've grown up with the Knowledge we can cause our own extinction. This is for a Civilization, like being a Child and coming face to face with Mortality.
Used to be, Armageddon was an act of God. Now, we can pull that trigger Ourselves.
