@Motodrachen @Zeny what about powerbikes (normal bikes with a little screamer of a motor bolted on)
@Motodrachen @Zeny
:o
...
:D
I'll try to make sure to share mine when I get it going!
@Motodrachen @Zeny
so I finally, FINALLY got a bike that'll fit the motor. it's got super-skinny tires with a funky "Presta" valve stem that I'm going to ned to buy adapters for, but those are $5/pair. no pictures yet, I had to get it in the car quickly before rain caught up with us. it's got a 7-speed internal hub-shifter that i'm going to need to move the shifter handle to the left side to accomidate the motor grip throttle. but the motor fits in it with plenty of space!
@Motodrachen @Zeny ... we seem to have encountered a problem. the sprocket won't fit on the 7-speed internal-gear hub
@Motodrachen @Zeny yep. standard 9-bolt rag hub with 1.5" center
@Motodrachen @Zeny I need a 44t with 2.5" center hole and 105-110mm diameter hole pattern, and the corresponding mounting kit, suitable for the large diameter hub inside too.
@Motodrachen @Zeny problem: it uses a very non-standard (even for Shimano) brake spline - 'nexus square spline', which is, perhaps obviously, not compatible with the more common Shimano triangular splines. I can find exactly one source for an adapter, and it costs 50 Euros from a bikeshop in germany
@Motodrachen @Zeny however, the OD of the spline nicely matches the ID of the sprocket, so I may be able to use the pineapple rags with some modification of the sprocket and rags. I DO have a drill press, so drilling precisely-located holes is not out of my skills
@Motodrachen @Zeny splitting the pineapple seems to have worked well; it sits solidly against the spline boss, and I was able to put the plastic dustcover back in place as well. Little? it's a 49cc, largest my area can have and still class under Moped rules
@Motodrachen the 49cc is listed as 2.1HP, and demotesting says it'll do 35 wide open on the flat
@Motodrachen
First test run was a qualified sucess! Motor chain jumped off and i had to walk it back to the house. I need to play with the tension and tracking skew to line up better. No video because mom fumbled the camera settings
@Motodrachen I'm kinda proud of the cross-drilled bolt btw - a 1.9mm (whatever american size) twist drill is delicate as fuck, especially when your improvised jig has enough flex that you can see the entire thing bend under the pressure from the quill, making the drill bit flex alarmingly
@Motodrachen I'm going to call the DMV tomorrow after class to see if they even worry about these things. I can Probably get it an AVIN and license, but if I don't Have to, I'd rather not pay the extra $150 that'll cost
@Motodrachen haven't called the DMV yet, but I have video!
@Motodrachen I got a shakedown cruise in, a mile and back to the corner hardware store to pick up a Presta-compatible tire pump.
works pretty good, though the little metal bracket that holds the back end of the belt drive cover steady cracked from metal fatigue.
also, that hardtail with high pressure tires and no seat springs is utterly bone-jarring
@Motodrachen welp. I got it altered for more upright riding posture for more comfort. raided some semi-trash kids bikes in the garage for parts, so now I have some high-stance bars! ...
But I subsequently had to do the Walk Of Shame because the entire valve stem tore out of the tube! Presumably due to the hard impacts against road joints.
(I thought these were tubular, but no, they're tube-and-tire)
@Motodrachen it's a matter of "things I have in-stash' (the brake levers and cable kits from a couple of bikes that got stripped and trashed) or 'things I can make' (cable clamp by cross-drilling under the head of a bolt)
