In reality, it's a three dimensional matrix of preferences and traits. In this Ted Talk I'll address the complexities of gender and sexual preference.

First up is understanding your own relative gender co-ordinate. This isn't just a 1D line where Male is at one end and Female is at the Other. There's other axes to consider, such as your own relative state of sexual Aggro, and your interest in being the Active member of a sexual encounter, or the passive one.

So, you can have 9 different paragon states:
The femme submissive bottom, all the way to the masc dom top.

And that's just in terms of baseline sexual orientation. Once you've established Your desires, you have to compare those to your possible Partners, and what you desire as a counterpart to your own sexual needs.

A femme dom bottom might want a masculine sub top, for example.

A masc sub top and femme sub bottom describes a Lot of hetero relationships that fall apart, for example.

And this is almost independent of gender presentation. A Big manly man can still be a femme sub bottom. We just know them as Bears.
