The two of you have been preparing for this moment a long while. You both make sure things are cleared for the next few days and settle back in your quarters of the station.

You had talked about setting the scene before this. Your quarters are done up as if it had been transported by a small brook. You can hear the trickling of water, as it flows through one end of your quarters to the next, adorned with greenery filling the room.

Your bed is adorned with silky sheets and a canopy of leaves moving with the circulation of air about the room. Next to the bed, you placed the syringe next to a vial of metallic teal liquid. Your heart beats as you glance over it, nervous but excited.

Some time later, you both lay naked on the soft sheets, laughing to take away the tension of the situation. Your partner asks if you still want to do this.
You do. You've been waiting too long.
You watch as they fill the syringe and make sure everything is safe.

You nod to them to continue, and stop watching. Your mind focuses on data. You think of your appointments planetside, crafting your new self inch by inch. The otter assured you full process shouldn't take more than a few hours, and that was amazing to think.

The injection is over before you can blink, and though it reassures you, you still feel nervous as the cool nanofluids flow over your form. You start to overanalyze every part of your body looking for changes, but your partner's hand caresses your cheek knowingly.
You relax.

The scales were the first to come, spreading from the area on your thigh where the injection happened. You figured it would itch, but you quickly realize you are not prepared for the level of itch.
It would have been more annoying had you not been flooded with feelings.

The toy otters that curated the experience were thorough, so you had felt and seen what it would look and feel like on your second visit. They also told you the real thing would be much more intense and personal.
They weren't kidding.

You sat there staring at that part of your body.
The same body you were born with.
The same body that you felt so out of place in.
The very body you spent so much time imagining and longing to feel scales on.

You reach out, and your fingers slowly run along your scales

You can watch as the scales spread, seemingly forming out of your skin, which was fascinating in its' own right. You expect your partner to be right there with you, but their gaze is on you, drinking up your amazement and wonder.
"How does it feel?" they ask softly.
"...Right."

It was true. Behind the wonder and emotion was the distinct feeling of expectance.
It didn't feel special
It didn't feel fantastical or outstanding.
It felt positively, absolutely normal.

Your scales felt like they'd always been there as they spread over your form. It seemed to justify all your years of struggle as every inch of your hide began to felt rejuvenated. Scales replaced skin and shifted in hue.
You were being fundamentally changed, and it felt sublime.

You watch as your hands began to change and shift in structure and shape. Along with it was the much more demanding feeling of your face shifting to form a snout. It didn't hurt, but was a sort of uncomfortable you had trouble placing.

Your frills start to form and grow out from your head. you reach to feel it and you notice your horns have started too. It felt almost overwhelmingly weird and tingly, but never hurt. You feel your partner's hand on your leg, and the other caressing your frills and snout

They watch you as your mind starts to flow and grasp your emerging form. you knew from your appointments that there was nothing altering you to grasp it all as your wings grow more prominent and your tail grows and thickens...

... However before they had even finished growing, you could actually feel yourself moving your tail. It was felt simultaneously ordinary and outstandingly perfect.
"That's the wonderful thing about your minds. They alter just fine to a huge amount of things!" The otters had gushed

You remember having waved your phantom tail for only you to know, and quipped back "Yeah, you don't say."
But as you sway your tail this time, you are astonished to find it no different. The same part of you that had control over your phantom tail was swaying your actual, physical tail.
