i never have any idea how to handle that, because i do care about these people, and i don't want them to harm themselves--and it extremely sucks when they self-harm and i know one of my decisions directly influenced that
but i also know that complying would mean i'm rewarding the idea of self-harm
so it becomes a huge pressure point for me that i hate, and if it happens often enough, i have to find a way to justify cutting off the abuse

When a person demands you do something otherwise they will hurt themselves, and they carry out with that threat. That is not your fault.
They are manipulating your concern and love for others into a tool against you.
They are an asshole and getting them out of your lives as soon as possible is great self-care.
