cw: pol kinda?

Had a thought on my way to work today about how, because everybody in North America, particularly the US, is basically forced to work to live, how little gestures of kindness and good samaritan-ness basically go ignored.

Follow me on this journey.

This .or ING,as I leave for work, I notice one of the building's lawn sprinklers is broken. Instead of spraying a fine mist all over the grass, it's gushing water in a fountain straight up, and onto the sidewalk.

Now my train of thought was basically "I should probably tell Him (the building super) but I dunno where he is right now and I'll be late for work."

And that made me think. How many times a day do people choose that tiny, seemingly insignificant act of self-preservation over doing a good deed? Probably a lot more often than most people would care to admit.

Am I saying if people didn't NEED to work, we'd be a better society overall?

...dunno, but I'd love to find out, honestly.
