Writing - Rewhan 4/?

The wooden case carries Rewhan's tools of his trade, as well as everything he's already worked on. A tiny brazier, empty flasks
(Shahazradii glass is considered some of the best in the world) ingredients, catalysts, reagents, and other miscellaneous components one uses in Alchemy.

Most of Rewhan's alchemy is medicinal in nature - he doesn't like using violently reactive alchemy unless he absolutely has to: he's an obligate pacifist, due to his Calling as an Alchemist.

Writing - Rewhan 3/?

Rewhan is a 'sable' ferret, which means he has the markings one associates with ferrets - 'gloves' and the 'bandit mask'. Otherwise he's just sort of beige and brown, darker along the back and lighter along his belly.

His clothes consist of a tunic and linen trousers, a leather vest lined with pockets, a heavy leather belt (also covered w/ pockets + pouches) and a brigandine coat (leather w/ chainmail rivited to its surface)

Also there's the enormous wooden toolbox.

Writing - Rewhan 2/?

Genetically, Rewhan is a 'northman'; he wasn't born in Shahazarad. He was adopted by the Guild of Alchemists, specifically its (at the time) Deputy Guildmaster.

Not knowing his birth family doesn't bother Rewhan at all. He had an enormous family of guildbrothers and guildsisters growing up, and wouldn't trade those experiences for anything in the world.

(I HATE the 'blood family is intrinsically better than adopted family' trope btw)

Writing - Rewhan 1/?

If Kalista is what I aspire to be (principled, powerful, patient) then Rewhan is how I see myself currently (cowardly, agitated, pessimistic) Kinda obv.

Rewhan is probably about 110-120 pounds soaking wet, barely five feet tall, and thin as a rail. Part of that is growing up an academic and part of that was spending two weeks in a City-State dungeon for a crime he may/may not have committed.

He's from Shahazarad, a city to the west across a vast desert called The Gold Sea.

Writing - Kalista 6/?

The sword was something I struggled with for a while b/c I wanted something that was equal parts symbolic and pragmatic. The idea being that this weapon - this tool - would be used so often the blade would chip, bend, and dull to the point it would need reforging almost constantly. So, I opted to have the 'sword' as one piece, and the blade riveted to the ricasso's iron brackets, such that the rivets could be chiseled off and the blade replaced like a disposable razor.

Morning awoos, strange peoples. Now, where was I before I got sidetracked yesterday...

Kalista - 5/?

Kalista's rod is actually a greatsword given to her by her church as both symbol and tool of office - it is unusual in design when compared against its contemporaries.

The pommel is comprised of two curved shapes alluding to the head of a dragon, while the crossguard alludes to unfurled wings. The ricasso is hardened iron which forms into two wedge-shaped brackets, one at the base of the blade, and another one third along its length. The blade is a separate piece of hardened steel.

Kalista - 4/?

Kalista does not anger easily - she was taught patience for all things - but she can and will raise her hand against those deserving of it. Typically those defying or perverting the law.

That is when you will see Kalista dressed in a coat of scale-mail, with steel greaves and gauntlets. (She doesn't care for a full mail set, preferring the mobility of scale and halfplate)

Over this she wears a white tabard w/ a dragon's head in profile dyed blue across her torso.

Kalista - 3/?

The most notable scars are the three ragged divots across the right side of her face, spaced wider at her brow than at her jaw, yet whatever claws raked her somehow managed not to claim her eye in the process.

If you were to meet her on the street, she would be dressed in loose-fitting white robes, tied with a braided silk rope. Over this, a blue stole bearing the dragon-with-outstretched wings icon of her faith at each end.

She carries a tall rod bearing the same icon.

Kalista - 2/?

But first, a description of the character:

Kalista is, by most people's interpretations, an enormous woman. Pushing 6 feet in height and nearly 200 pounds in weight, imagine a scaly Brienne of Tarth with the physique of Overwatch's Zarya. Her bronze scales have begun to develop a seafoam-green 'patina' in places, particularly around the face and neck, indicating her approach to middle age. She bears a number of scars from a long career, particularly around the face and upper arms.

Writing - Kalista 1/?

Kalista is the character I've worked on longest, which is curious b/c she's not even the 'main' character of the narrative I've created. That'd be Rewhan. And yet, he's not the 'hero' of the story, she is. Rewhan is the person the story 'happens to', and Kalista is the person who actually effects change and causes events to transpire (At least, that's how it is at first)

At first her role was to execute Rewhan for the events that begin the story. (in medias res, ho!)
