Technology gripes

goshdarnit.

my monitor just died.

it's my 5:4 monitor too, the one I use for web browsing.

I've got another I can use in the meanwhile but it's a small crappy thing :(

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee Do you need a 5:4 monitor for some reason? We can try to help find you a replacement.

re: Technology gripes

@Rosemary

I'm pretty particular, yeah. 4:3 or 5:4 monitor for web browsing and older games (I prefer the more square aspect ratio) and then a widescreen for games

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee Just a brief look on Newegg and I found this refurbished Dell monitor, 1280x1024 resolution, for $40. Considering that's half the price we paid for our monitor, and we got ours extremely cheap, that might be worth looking into. newegg.com/Product/Product.asp

re: Technology gripes

@Rosemary

that's almost exactly the model I have right now... er, the one that failed on me. And that had its power button break only a month or two after I got it, to never work again (at least it failed in the On position)

it's 40 bucks I don't have right now, anyway

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee newegg.com/Product/ProductList This is the search I used to find it, by the way.

Hrm, how urgently do you need the monitor? Are you able to use your widescreen one comfortably enough, or is it significantly harder?

re: Technology gripes

@Rosemary

it's *really frustrating*, kinda makes me feel half blinded.

but I'll survive

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee Would you prefer the first one I linked to you, or this HP one? newegg.com/Product/Product.asp This one's VGA only, so keep that in mind.

We can spare at least $20 towards it, maybe even the full $40, if it's that frustrating.

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee don't feel pressured to accept, though. It's an offer, and it'll stay on the table as long as you need it, but I won't be offended if you don't want to.

re: Technology gripes

@Rosemary

that HP looks like it's got a frustrating mount, so probably the dell.

I can wait a bit, at least.

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee Do you want us to get the Dell for you, or would you rather hold off until you can get one that's not refurbished, or one that isn't a model you had trouble with in the past?

Come to think of it, what about a widescreen monitor with a mount that lets you pivot it sideways and use it in portrait mode?

re: Technology gripes

@Rosemary

I'd prefer squareish, not portrait.

...frankly having the dell, especially since the refurb probably comes with a decent warranty, would be better than nothing by far.

re: Technology gripes

@nautilee The refurbished one comes with a 30-day warranty with a 20% restocking fee if you return it for any reason other than that it wasn't as described in the listing--no restocking fee if that's the reason. Newegg also provides a 90-day limited warranty, but I can't find just what the limitations are.
