Why is it that, if a cis person gets someone's name wrong and they correct them saying they prefer to go by a nickname or their middle name or something, it's accepted without question, but if a trans person corrects someone and says what their real name is, they get told they're wrong?

elaborating on the logic of anti-trans bigotry

@monorail @Rosemary the fundamental principle behind bigotry towards trans people is that it is impossible for anyone to be genuinely trans and wrong to try to be

thus, in bigot-logic, while a cis person might genuinely prefer a nickname and therefore it is permissible to believe them when they say so, a trans person cannot and/or cannot be permitted to genuinely prefer their actual name and therefore it is impermissible to believe them when they say so
