I was thinking more along the lines of how the Aztecs and other cultures in that area had actual cities that functioned similarly to European cities, whereas, as we understand it, most of the north american natives had a drastically different sort of civilization that europeans of the time would have called uncivilized.
@cozykaffe@snouts.online And as such, the europeans would have been more open to treating the Aztecs as equals, whereas the europeans encountering the north american natives would be more likely to treat them as lesser beings, because "treat them as lesser beings" is basically what europeans _do_ with anyone they don't understand.
