I continue to be horrified by the "COVID is over, and it's harmless anyway" people that seem to be everywhere.
The reality is that the pandemic is still raging, and that it's doing irreparable and awful damage. The science is coming in that this is a cardiovascular nightmare for people long term, and that the harm done from an infection goes well beyond the acute phase of the illness. You might have sniffles for a week, but two years down the road you'll have a stroke.
I work with people who make antiviral medication for a living. Supposedly some of the best in the world. None of them so much as wear masks, ever. And I get shit for wearing a mask and attending meetings virtually.
I wish callous, thoughtless assholes weren't allowed to make decisions on my health based on their idiot feelings and desires for convenience.
...
And you know what's more? After three years, what fucking progress have we made? This whole nightmare has been an event that shook the world to it's core, but the only lesson anyone seems to have learned is "Protective Measures BAD" and "Let's let the disadvantaged die and suffer, that's acceptable".
No increases in ventilation, no normalization of masks, no precautions whatsoever.
Motherfuckers out here acting like it's October 2019 are gonna be shocked when it's April 2020 all over again.
Only they won't actually care. They'll just pretend that caring about people is criminal and "bad for the economy". They'll just let people's lives be destroyed by death, long term illness, and suffering.
Fuck everything.
