I'm so glad we have a calendar with month names that make sense [1/2]

January for Janus, the roman god obviously goes first smh

Then February, named avert Februa, a Roman festival of Purification

March is for Mars, Roman god of war

April comes from a latin word meaning "to open" which uh. Like spring flowers! Yeah.

May is after goddess Maia, who represents the month of May. :thonk:

June after Juno, god of making babies

July and August are for the roman emporers Julius Caesar and Agustus

@mawr I do kinda like Janus there at the beginning, god of boundaries, transitions, beginnings, ends, and just sort of Time and liminality in general. Feels like the right god to call on for the beginning of the year.

@Soreth I think I'd like that more if they didn't also include two fascist dictators to cover all but the edges of the favored summer months
