So we arrive at "The Conundrum".
The genie I wish to be is a product of linguistic collision, cultural diffusion/appropriation, and pop culture cartoonification. No one ever paid tribute, worshiped, or devoted themselves to a genie like the ones I wish to be/supplicate myself to.
The "Real" Djinn are considered deeply dangerous, and I've found nothing about any occult or magiqual aspect to the Jeannie style Genie.
I'm unsure of where that leaves me.

@Phorm The heart wants what it wants, regardless of the "legitimacy" of external traditions or lack thereof. You have, at the minimum, a strong cultural archetype which millions if not billions of people are aware of. So what if it's new? Everything started somewhen, and even animism was a new idea once.

@Soreth Thank you <3 I very much appreciate this attitude, and really am aligning myself to it. After all, I will admit I've tried to escape it without success. Plus, we all have to start somewhere, I suppose!
And starting somewhere that I can draw from widely recognized symbols, if not "strictly historically accurate" may still be powerful, as you suggest.

@Phorm Nobody remembers ancient cultures except a few people who study them. EVERYBODY knows popular culture. You follow a very very widely recognized symbol.

@Phorm I wished once that you were happy and a genie - it still holds.

@Soreth I take wishes very seriously, and do my best to grant them <3
(And thank you for that, very much)
