I'm having to read about the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analytics for my new job.
And that's fine. That's normal and expected.
What's horrible to read about is *why* the field needs an ethics code. AKA the Sunland Miami Scandals.
Tl;dr: I knew abuse happened frequently in psychological institutions in the 1940s-1970s. But Oh Boy is it fun getting sidelined by the horrible history of one's chosen field when not expecting it.

@Sparrow tbh the abusive thread in ABA goes all the way back to Lovaas himself ... Time magazine visited his lab in the 60s and wrote glowingly about it:

I mean, looking back at the horrible abuse, it's understandable why many autistic patients don't trust ABA therapy.
I had a bad dream recently that someone told me the therapy I've been trained in was unethical.
But it's come an incredibly long way these days. ABA focuses on teaching kids skills to communicate and function in our world, while embracing their strengths and celebrating neurodiversity.
