re: birdsite, fascism
@eevee I wonder if willingness to share screenshot dunks around is dependant on how much a given leftist feels legitimately threatened (socially, physically, infosec...ly...?) by fascists. Pointing and laughing is easy when you think they're a "joke". Even when it gets framed as "activism".
... or it could be a coping mechanism.

re: birdsite, fascism
@eevee @Taylor oh yeah to be clear I absolutely think it is wrong and harmful and I try hard to avoid ever doing it. I am constantly linking to Jay smooth’s “don’t link to the line steppers” and to Tay’s “you are entering a shooting gallery from the wrong end”, I just understand why it’s superficially tempting
re: birdsite, fascism
@Taylor @eevee there are several lefty people I follow whose audiences are much more, uh, let’s say “gamer-y” and I can tell you that THEIR followers do in fact need to be told that fascism is bad and unacceptable, and so their constant dunk-QTing, while I would not describe it as “strategically ideal”, is more justifiable than if I were to do it. And their gallows humor appeals to my own maladaptive coping mechanisms
re: birdsite, fascism
@Taylor @eevee I feel the temptation constantly, and I hope I don’t succumb very often, but I can tell you at least what makes it compelling for me personally: it’s a huge dangerous emergency and it is incredibly crazy-making that the population in general seems to think that these people are just annoying or dumb rather than violent maniacs or the command structure for same. The people who follow *me* don’t need to be told this, but what else can I do?
